DIY Deodorant - That Works!
There are a variety of deodorants on the market now that label themselves “natural” but really don’t have great ingredients when you stop to take a look. Luckily there are a handful that actually are natural and DO work as well - you can find some of the ones we like best here but if like me you’re sensitive to baking soda or allergic to aloe then you will likely find yourself out of luck with the store bought brands. Never fear, we’ll share our easy and effective recipe for great smelling and pit pleasing deodorant!
equipment
- 2 deodorant tubes
- double boiler
Ingredients
- 4 teaspoons grated beeswax
- 2 tablespoons grated cocoa butter
- 2 tablespoons shea butter, lard or tallow
- 4 teaspoons arrowroot powder
- 20-25 drops of your favorite essential oil -lavender, lemon, geranium, bergamot, sandalwood
modifications
- guy version - add 3 teaspoons bentonite clay
- odor killer - add 2 teaspoons magnesium oil
method
Melt wax, butter/fats in a double boiler over low heat. Once fully melted, add the arrowroot powder (and modifications if doing) and mix thoroughly.
Allow mixture to cool slightly. Add essential oils, mixing thoroughly and pour into tubes.
Store out of sunlight and excessive heat. Lasts about a year.
